If you’ve watched the weather at all I’m sure you’ve noticed that Texas, after years of drought, is flooding in places we never expected it to flood. Now it’s become a balancing act with floodgates being manned all along the Colorado River that forms our lake system. This is Mansfield dam which feeds into Lake Austin. It’s been a long time since they’ve had to open the floodgates. Too much of a good thing!
We can see Lake Austin from our patio, and on Memorial Day we saw police helicopters flying low along the lake and announcing via loud-speakers that all boaters needed to get off the lake because they were releasing water from the dam.
I’m feeling the urge to go someplace sunny, and Key West is high on my list. I know it’s surrounded with water – but it’s supposed to be. Look at the color of that water. Look at those palm trees. Look at that sunshine!
I imagine myself in a summer dress and sandals, a soft breeze is blowing, and I’m raising my fork to put that first exquisite bite of Key Lime Pie in my mouth.
